Noli Timere (Be Not Afraid)

Noli Timere (Be Not Afraid)
Shortly before he died, the wonderful poet Seamus Heaney apparently sent a text to his wife which read, ‘Noli Timere’ (Be not afraid).

Hearing about this, I felt inspired to set these words in some way. I imagined the consolation they might confer, coming from pure Stillness, to an individual mind facing its own dissolution. I wrote some additional text arising from that thought, and took the words, the tune and my cello to a recording studio where, with help, I made the finished piece of music. I am very happy to be sharing it here and hope you will like it!

Noli Timere.
With quiet steps descends the night.
I mourn the passing of the day.
The voice of Stillness fills my heart,
and fear dissolves,
and fear dissolves,
and fear dissolves in endless light…
