Whatever I am experiencing, I am present. Whether attending a retreat, feeling anxious or afraid, I am present. Our presence pervades all continually changing experience. We give attention to the changing aspects of experience and overlook the fact of simply being. Meditation or prayer is the reversal of this process – giving attention to the fact of simply being and letting go of the changing aspects of experience. Being doesn’t suddenly become infinite; it is always only that. When entangled in the content of experience, it seems to become temporary, finite. Don't allow your being to be personalised by experience. Our being, God’s being, is the only being there is. The separate self appears to be finite, but when looked at it closely, all we find is unlimited being. To assert the existence of a temporary finite self apart from God's being is blasphemy. In meditation we sink deeper into being, being sinks deeper into itself.
