Only that which is aware can be aware of itself or indeed any other thing. The knowledge ‘I am’ is awareness’s primary knowledge. Ask yourself 'What is it that knows? What is it that enables me to have experience?’ See that all experience is illuminated or known by the light of awareness. Meditation or prayer is simply to come back to our self. Feel yourself as the space of awareness which not only knows all experience but contains all experience. We are not really doing anything; we are just being our self knowingly. As awareness disentangles itself more and more profoundly from the content of experience – its nature of peace is gradually revealed. Simply abide as that.
