Normally, it seems reality is clear in the waking state, is distorted in the dream state, and is temporarily absent in deep sleep. Consider that pure being, which we experience in deep sleep, is the natural condition. The waking state is like a VR thinking-perceiving headset through which being refracts into a multiplicity and diversity, an inside self and outside world. Being removes the headset, revealing it’s essentially infinite, dimensionless, aware. There are two facets: being that lies behind experience, and being that shines in and as experience. Most of us first discover being behind experience. At some point, we must face experience and see that thinking and perceiving no longer veil being, but shine with it, as it. Sitting for formal meditation or prayer, we do the same thing we are doing all day: knowing, being, loving only being. Eyes open or eyes closed – we are safe everywhere, we are at home everywhere.
