Experience consists of perceptions, sensations, thoughts, images, and the fact of being aware. Become aware of perceptions – sights, sounds, tastes, textures, smells. Now become aware of bodily sensations. Now, turn attention away from perceptions and sensations, as we do effortlessly when falling asleep. Remain aware of thoughts and images, but wide awake in the dream state. Now cease giving thoughts and images attention. Remain wide awake, but no longer aware of thoughts and images. Only aware being remains. Deep sleep is awareness all alone. Remaining awake whilst falling asleep is the essence of meditation. It’s not something we do, but what remains when all experience has been removed. It is the natural state, finite being revealed as infinite being, God's being. This is the ultimate surrender to God, the highest devotion. The art of everyday life is being aware of being in experience, praying without ceasing. This is the practice of the presence of God.
