Just as a screen allows every image while remaining untouched by the content of the movie, awareness permits all experience without needing to change, seek or discard anything. This peace is not created and thus cannot be destroyed – it is the ever-present nature of being itself, requiring no special circumstances or understanding. Like a dreamer who seems to become a character in their own dream, consciousness appears to localise as countless viewpoints while remaining one indivisible whole. The teaching exists only for the apparently separate self, but as we discard everything non-essential – every thought, feeling and perception – we find ourselves as pure awareness before any mixing with experience. The sun needs no illumination; awareness needs no teaching. One sentence can take us straight back to ourselves until even that becomes unnecessary.
