Meditation is Falling Asleep Whilst Remaining Awake from the media Falling Asleep Whilst Remaining Awake

When we go to bed at night, all activities come to an end. We let go of perceptions and sensations and all that remains are thoughts and images – we are now in the dream state. We, awareness, remain wide awake in the presence of thoughts and images. Now, we let go of them, but we cease being involved with them. We are now what's called deeply asleep and yet we, awareness, are wide awake. Now, thoughts and images begin to emerge again, but we remain as we are – deeply asleep, so to speak. Come back to the dream state awareness, wide awake, aware of its own being in the presence of thoughts and images. As experience arises, we no longer become entangled in, or identified with, its content. As Ramana Maharshi once said, ‘Meditation is like falling asleep whilst remaining awake’.
