Ask yourself, ‘With what am I aware of my experience?’ To answer any other question – ‘What is your name?’, ‘How old are you?’ – the mind goes towards the content of experience. For this question the mind must venture in an unknown direction. Any direction the mind takes to answer this question is towards the known. We are interested in the knower, not the known. If we are involved in the content of experience, ask ‘What is aware of this thought, this feeling?’ When not allowed to rest on any object of experience, the mind begins to subside. This is the pathless path, which leads to the experiential answer to the question, ‘What is it that knows my experience?’ Instead of being established in the turbulence of thoughts and feelings, stay in and as awareness. Feel the impenetrable peace permeating the flow of experience. ‘I am’ is like a shining beacon indicating God's presence in our hearts.
