The central aspect of the non-dual understanding is that peace and happiness are the nature of our being. We are already that for which we long, free from the agitation of thoughts and the sense of lack or sorrow of feelings. Experience entangled in thoughts, feelings and sensations gives us a partial, limited view of ourself, the ultimate cause of sorrow. When we say ‘I am' we refer to our being before it is qualified by experience. Nothing added to ‘I am’ is essential. Sink deeply into yourself behind the content of experience. Whatever appears, simply let it go. The mind subsides, sinks into the heart, into being. The deeper we sink, the quieter it becomes. We don’t become silent or peaceful. Our nature is already such when not veiled by the content of experience. Sound the divine name, ‘I’ and allow yourself to be drawn into its referent.
