For all people, there are two births and two deaths. The first is the birth into the world; the second is the birth out of the world. The first is given to us; the second requires our conscious participation. What does it require? A complete letting go of everyone and everything. In the first birth, all these qualities are gradually added to us. In the second birth, all these qualities are either gradually or suddenly removed from us. Just as there is a spiritual birth, so there is a spiritual death, which precedes the death of the body, which is the loss of the feeling of being a temporary, finite, limited self. What is experienced as a death for the temporary, finite self is experienced as a rebirth for the true and only self. This abidance in naked being, as naked being, is the highest form of meditation. One with the one.
