What do we want? We may say a relationship, or wellness, or a nicer house or more money, but if we knew that the object, situation or relationship would cause misery, desire would cease. In this meditation, we explore that what we really seek is not an object, circumstance or relationship, but the happiness we believe is derived from them. We all want and seek happiness. Happiness is always the same experience, irrespective of what seems to have caused it. When circumstances coincide with what we want, resistance – the activity of the mind – ceases, and our innate happiness shines. The activity of resisting and seeking veils the happiness that is the very nature of our self. To surrender completely, to be open without resistance, is what we are, our natural condition. Can we live as this openness, surrendered to life from moment to moment?
