The finite mind that claims, ‘I know and experience the world’, is like the full moon that says, ‘I illuminate the Earth with my own light’. The world is known through the mind, not by the mind. The finite mind borrows its light from the light of awareness. There is nothing problematic about the light of awareness shining in the body, seeming to become a finite mind through which experience is known. What is problematic is when this appearance of the finite mind is mistaken for an entity in its own right. All that is necessary is to recognise that the light of the mind that we seem to be is really the light of infinite consciousness that we truly are. In everyday life, we usually follow the moonlight of our mind towards the objects of experience. In meditation or prayer, we trace the moonlight of our mind back to the sunlight of awareness.
