Bring your sense of self to attention. Remove non-essential aspects of your experience: sounds, sights, sensations. They are temporary; you remain. Ask: What remains when all is removed? It’s like emptying a room of its contents, even the walls. What’s left is the room’s essence; its space, which remains unchanged. Similarly, stripping away thoughts, feelings, and sensations leaves our essence – the fact of being aware. To be our essential nature, aware being, requires no practice. It’s not harmed or tarnished by experience and doesn’t need enlightenment. Meditation is not doing but being this aware presence. Could anything enhance our essential self? It’s already complete: pristine, peaceful. No impulse to become or do something needs addressing – it doesn’t affect our essential being. The teaching culminates when we see there’s nothing to achieve; we are already the infinite self-aware being. On the Pathless Path, there are no teachers, only friends sharing being, which is love.
