Reality – what is, as opposed to appearances – is one. Appearances suggest a multiplicity, but non-dual understanding reveals all are one. We are that, without being ‘we’ or ‘you’. Refracting itself through perceiving and thinking, the One appears as numerous forms. The waking state is where the infinite falls asleep within its imagination and wakes as the finite mind or separate self. At the heart of all finite minds is existential longing to return to being whole. They search for finite objects and spiritual practices, seeking relief from the pain of separation. The search can’t be fulfilled because the seeking self is an illusion. Spiritual traditions offer the finite self ways to unite with the One. At some point, we must ask, who is seeking? Sooner or later, all pathways end. Why not start with what is, rather than what seems to be? Don’t engage this seeking impulse. Remain as the One, and let it subside.
