We are invited to rest as the silent presence of awareness – that which knows, contains and is the substance of all experience. Using the analogy of a room's empty space surviving the removal of all objects, we explore our essential nature that remains when all temporary elements of experience are stripped away. This awareness is described as luminous like the sun, lighting all experience equally, and space-like, though these are merely evocative descriptions. Though seemingly empty to the mind, awareness is actually full of itself, and this fullness is what we call joy. Like space unaffected by its contents, awareness remains peaceful regardless of experience, gradually dissolving our agitation and sorrow through simple self-resting.
