Imagine being just born: no sights, sounds, tastes, textures, smells, feelings, sensations, or thoughts. Visualise your essential self as a vast, empty, undivided space. Taste the inherent peace of your being. If the space in your room were to introspect, it would realise it is the same vast, undivided space as the entire universe, not limited or divided by the walls. The space in any room is the same single, indivisible space. It’s the same with us – our essential self is not generated by, doesn’t share the limits of, and is not contained within the body. Recognising this shared being is the experience we call ‘love’ with people and animals, and ‘beauty’ with objects and nature. Love and beauty are where reality shines through our normal subject-object way of experiencing. This approach is likely humanity’s only hope. Our unity of being must be the foundation for any just and peaceful society.
