When our alarm goes off at 6:30, we feel reluctant to leave the comfort and peace of our bed. Let it be the same for meditation – be reluctant to allow your mind to go out into the world of thoughts, feelings, perceptions and so on. Remain in the comfort and peace of being. It’s like the Covid years, stay home, leave attention resting in being. Allow the mind to remain immersed in being. Meditation is pure laziness. Ramana Maharshi said that the lazy state of just being and shining as ‘I am’ is the natural condition of our self – the highest attainment. Of course, he knew that our self was not an attainment, it is what we are. But he said this as a compassionate concession to one who had lost their self in the content of experience. Happiness belongs to that supremely lazy person for whom even blinking is too much trouble.
