Surrendering the Hidden Emotional Residues in the Body
In this meditation, we explore how the seeking and resisting that creates suffering comes from the belief that we are a temporary, finite self. However, the separate self is not just a belief or thought, it is also a feeling in the body. The more we explore this feeling, the more fully we surrender the felt sense of separation that is stored in the body, laid down early in life in response to trauma we were too young to process. These emotional residues do not respond to reason. If surrender is to be complete, it must include these residues of emotional trauma in the deepest recesses of the body, hidden from the waking state mind but still operating in the background, influencing how we live. Experience itself is not unpleasant; our resistance confers any unpleasantness. Be the resistance-less space of awareness in which these thoughts and feelings appear and disappear.
