There are two paradoxical states – falling asleep whilst remaining awake in meditation, and being awake whilst remaining asleep in daily life. In meditation, as perceptions and thoughts fall away, we remain as pure awareness, like the ever-shining sun. When the mind rises again with thoughts and perceptions, we need not be seduced away from our home in being. What we consider longing for peace is actually being’s gravitational pull drawing us back to itself. Though the mind may experience being’s emptiness as boring absence, in being’s own experience nothing is lacking – its apparent emptiness is its fullness. We can remain home as being whilst allowing experience to come to us, rather than losing ourselves by venturing out into time and space.
