In this meditation, we ask ourself, ‘Is there anything I want in life more than peace and happiness on the inside and love on the outside?’ If the answer is ‘no’, then understand that peace and happiness are the very nature of our being, and love is the felt sense that we share our being with everyone and everything. The statement ‘be aware of simply being’ does not imply that we can be aware of being in the way that we are aware of the sound of a barking dog or the tingling sensation at the soles of our feet. Being can never be an object of our experience because we are essentially our being. It is we, our being, which is aware of itself. Sinking into being is a gradual process. It's like sinking from the turbulent surface of the ocean gradually into its silent depths. Being loses the characteristics that it derives from our personal experience – thinking, feeling, sensing, perceiving and so on – and is revealed as utterly intimate and, at the same time, impersonal.
