See that any resistance to our current experience rises in the form of a thought or a feeling. This thought or feeling appears in this aware openness and is completely welcome within it. There is no rejecting of the resisting thought or feeling. Underneath these thoughts there is a feeling of resistance or boredom, and the purpose of these thoughts is to take us away from the discomfort of this feeling, this sense of lack. Become aware of the underlying feelings that generate the thoughts that take us away from the now. The thoughts are just the mouthpiece of these feelings, the more or less subtle sense of lack. Most of us are not courageous enough to face fully this sense of lack. We are too busy avoiding it through substances, states of mind, and so on. Face your experience until you can honestly say there is not the slightest resistance to it. It is not the experience itself that demands that we resist it. It is we who resist the experience. What remains of the experience when our resistance is withdrawn or dissolves?
