Be very sensitive to any sense of expectation in yourself, any movement of yourself towards something or someone. This expectation takes us towards objects, substances, activities, relationships. In time, there is just a raw unnameable objectless longing in our heart that takes us towards something, we know not what. This longing is the core of the separate self or ego. Even the so-called spiritual search colludes with and perpetuates the core sense of longing that defines the separate self. If you find yourself lost in thinking just ask yourself the question ‘Where are you going and why?’ The answer will nearly always be, ‘I am venturing into the past or future in order to escape the discomfort of this longing.’ Don't touch the thoughts. Have the courage to see that what we truly long for lives at the source of our longing, never at its destiny. The mind never find understanding; it dissolves in it. Even my words, which once seemed to point towards love and understanding, are now felt as a distraction from it. In other words, the more I say, the less I really say. The less I say, the more I really say.
