Be sensitive to any impulse to seek happiness or enlightenment in the world. The finite mind intuits something beyond its limitations and conceives this as enlightenment. This pursuit, even through meditation, is for the mind, not being. Being, like the sun, shines eternally. It requires no practice, much like the sun does not practise shining. Enlightenment and ignorance are concepts for the mind, not for being. Being is always present, unchanging, shining in us as the sense of ‘I am’. It is unconditioned by experience. The nature of being, before it is mixed with experience, is empty, transparent, luminous, free, and unlimited. Be sensitive to any expectation that something special will happen; what is special is already happening. Being requires no practice or instruction, just as the sun doesn’t practise shining. It is eternally at rest, needing, knowing, and wanting nothing. Being doesn’t strive to become unlimited, because it never was limited.
