If meditation were something you did with your mind, it would have started minutes ago. But meditation is simply being knowingly yourself – not thoughts, feelings or sensations, but what cannot be removed from you. In deep sleep, thoughts and sensations cease, but you don’t cease to be. What you essentially are remains when everything removable is removed. The peaceful aware being you are in deep sleep is what you are now, only clothed in experience. Your inherently peaceful being shines in the presence of experience just as when sleeping – lacking nothing, seeking nothing. Nothing disturbs your being. The experience of being is the same for everyone – Buddha’s experience would be identical to yours. Being requires no effort whatsoever. Just as characters in a film may be agitated while the screen remains motionless, your mind may be agitated, but you are ever at peace.
