Religious and spiritual traditions suggest two possibilities: doing or being. ‘Doing’ includes all mental, physical and emotional activity. Why don’t the traditions suggest doing and being? Because most people’s attention is exclusively involved in doing. We need a balance – both/and instead of either/or; to fully engage in experience without turning away, yet remain in touch with innately peaceful being. When experience loses its distracting or concealing power, doing becomes transparent to being. The deeper we go into the experience of the body, the less we find of it as normally conceived – just transparent pulsation. We are upgrading the experience of the body consistent with our new understanding that awareness is the ultimate reality, and everything is ultimately that. You experience your mind in awareness, not awareness in your mind. Allow your attention to roam freely in the field of awareness. Instead of a self, do you not just find aware openness, loving acceptance?
