Only awareness can be aware of itself or anything. The name ‘I’ is the divine name of the infinite in us. Our essential, irreducible self – most ordinary and overlooked – in favour of the more-interesting content of experience. Thoughts, feelings, perceptions, etc. are temporarily added to then removed from it, but the ‘I am’ remains. So-called meditation is to come back from the adventure of experience and to abide as being. Every time we return from the content of experience, it’s attractive power diminishes until we gradually, effortlessly find ourselves established in essential being. Meditation then ceases to be something we do; it is understood and felt to be simply what we are. In daily life, we must give our attention to the content of experience. But don’t do so at the expense of your self. Don’t go out towards experience. Remain in and as yourself and let experience come to you.
