Naked, Self-Aware Being

This ebook features dialogues and contemplations from Naked, Self-Aware Being, a seven-day retreat in New York.
About
When we say, ‘I am’, the ‘I’ that I am is the same ‘I’ that knows ‘I am’. That is, our being is self-aware. However, our being’s knowledge of itself, which shines in each of us as the experience of peace or happiness, seems to be obscured by its knowledge of the thoughts, feelings, activities and relationships that create the imaginary person we seem to be. But just as our naked body remains our naked body irrespective of the clothes we wear, so our naked being remains our naked being irrespective of the content of experience. All that is necessary is for our naked, self-aware being to see itself clearly. This clear knowledge of our self is not a new experience that happens to us; it is simply the revelation of what we always and already are.
Over the seven days of this retreat, Rupert Spira leads us in guided contemplations of the nature of our being, as well ‘yoga meditations’ in which we investigate the thoughts, sensations and perceptions that seem to be ‘me’, towards this revelation our essential self and its innate peace and happiness. Conversations with the gathered friends, on topics ranging from relationships to mental health to reincarnation, provide in-depth exploration and guidance for applying the non-dual understanding in daily life.
The Sahaja Digital Retreat Collection offers titles that re-create the experience of a full retreat with Rupert Spira, featuring guided meditations and selected dialogues from one of his weekend or seven-day retreats. This ebook presents lightly edited transcripts of the contemplations and conversations held at Naked, Self-Aware Being, a seven-day retreat in New York in the spring of 2019.
