Before any experience, during all experience, after its disappearance – you are. Being aware is your natural, effortless condition. All experience is added to you then removed, yet you eternally remain. Meditation is simply to disentangle from the content of experience, return to yourself, and abide there. Nothing is imposed from outside; there is nothing outside awareness. You modulate yourself in the form of all experience – like an ocean becoming waves, a sky becoming clouds, a screen becoming characters – then lose yourself in your own modulations and forget who you really are. Ask: do I have any resistance to my current experience? If so, you are standing in your mind, not your being. A mind that soaks in being is gradually washed clean of its sorrow, grief, loneliness and agitation. Surrender your mind to being and its inherent peace permeates – like a frightened child resting on its mother’s lap, whose innate love washes away fear.
