The Ground of the Soul

Let your attention subside into itself, letting go of whatever you encounter. Hold on to nothing – release thoughts, memories, feelings, sensations, perceptions, even the idea of God. Let go of every image of yourself as a person and stand naked, empty, divested of experience’s content. Simply be naked aware being – what Meister Eckhart calls the ‘ground of the soul’. You haven’t become anything new; you’ve only lost everything not essential, revealing the uncreated light of God in the soul. This ground is simple and without means – no methods can realise it. The ground is empty with reference to experience, and because of this emptiness, God’s presence shines there in fullness. All the soul’s powers must be still, for in that rest, God speaks his word – infinite being’s knowing shining as your being. This unknowing is dark for the mind but radiant for being. This radiance shines as ‘I am’ – God’s knowledge.
