Be sensitive to the slightest regret or expectation. Regret takes us into the past, expectation into the future. Otherwise, we find ourselves effortlessly in the now – the place of peace. Regret or expectation may not be formulated as a thought. More like an impulse that pulls us into past or future. Let this subtle energetic pull subside in being. The impulse to leave the now, however, may also be formulated as a thought: ‘I don’t like what is happening to me.’ ‘I want what is not happening.’ All psychological suffering is created with this single thought. Just as nothing can make us happy because happiness and peace are our nature, so nothing can make us unhappy. Our sorrow is never caused by anything outside of ourselves. We do sorrow to ourselves through our resistance to what is taking place. Just say yes instead of no, and our suffering ceases right there.
