‘I Am’ – Consciousness Knowing Itself

‘I Am’ – Consciousness Knowing Itself

Just as the sun illuminates itself by being itself, you consciousness know yourself simply by being yourself. When you say ‘I am’, you refer to consciousness’s experience of being itself – not ‘I a thought am’ but ‘I consciousness am’. Only consciousness is aware, and therefore only consciousness has the experience of being. This self-awareness is your most ordinary, intimate, familiar experience – nothing abstract or mystical. You are always aware of yourself, which is why you can pause and say ‘I am’. Sometimes your awareness becomes mixed with thoughts and sensations, and you feel ‘I am this’ or ‘I am that’, but the pure ‘I am’ continues shining. Meditation is simply disentangling yourself from experience’s content and returning to your primary experience of being. Imagine yourself consciousness all alone – no thoughts, memories or perceptions. In this experience, there is no time, space, size, shape or age. Your experience is without dimensions – infinite.
