Being Never Dims

Sound the divine name ‘I am’ once within your mind and be drawn into its referent. When we say ‘I am’, we are saying ‘I know that I am’. This knowing of being always shines brightly in us. Seemingly obscured by thoughts and perceptions, it never dims. Knowing of being is not filtered by thought and perception; it is direct, immediate knowledge. Being feels like yet another experience, but it is a portal through which reality shines. When we sink deeply into being, we pass out of experience – time and the finite – into eternity and the infinite. The first quality we know about anything is its being. Being shines in existence. ‘I am’ is what reality says about itself. The finite mind cannot truly know reality, and therefore it isn’t absolutely true to say, ‘God is’. Which is why Meister Eckhart prayed to God to rid him of God.
